Getting found
Do you need a website if you’re on Instagram and Maps?
Yes, even then your own website helps. Instagram and Google Maps are handy, but they aren’t yours. And not everyone uses them.

Maybe you reckon customers find you already. You’re on Google Maps, you’ve got Instagram, and everyone round here knows you. Fair enough. Keep Instagram and Google Maps, by all means. But there are a few things they don’t do.
Who owns your Instagram page?
Not you. Your page sits on another company’s platform. That company decides who sees your posts and what your page looks like. Lose your account, or watch the rules change, and there’s little you can do about it.
A website on your own domain name really is yours. That’s your business name with your own country’s ending, or .com. It stays, whatever happens to social media.
Is everyone on Instagram?
No. Plenty of customers don’t have it. Or they don’t want to log in just to see your opening hours. Anyone can open a website, on any phone, with no account.
What doesn’t Google Maps show?
A Google Business Profile shows your address, your opening hours and a few photos. Useful, but there isn’t room for much else. On a website you show what you sell, what it costs and how you work.
Google reads your website too. If it carries the same details as your profile, everything matches everywhere.
Do AI assistants read websites?
Yes. People ask AI assistants things like “Which hairdresser in Austin has a slot free today?” The assistant looks for clear information, including on websites. No website? Then it has less to say about you. Read What does an AI say about your business?
Do I have to choose?
No. Use Instagram for your everyday photos. Keep your Google Business Profile up to date. And make your website the one place where it all comes together. We make sure your website and your Google Business Profile show the same details, and we’re happy to put a link to your Instagram on your website.
